Our
Mission
Just HOPE provides supportive and direct services to those at-risk or experiencing homelessness in Davie County. We empower individuals through education, job training, and compassionate case management so they can rebuild stable, self-sufficient lives.
Women LEAD Program
This program assists women who have little to no employable skills enter or re-enter the workforce. “We set up training and/or education for each participant to get them ready for a career. We maintain relationships with local employers to create or open up positions for these women who need living wage-paying jobs to better provide for their families. We provide uniforms and business attire from our thrift store.” JHI sells a line of #She is Me t-shirts to help support this program.
Soul Circle
Soul Circle is a community group meeting that happens on select Thursday evenings from 6pm-8pm. We offer a free activity and meal for participants who attend. Activities include journaling, rock painting, live music, potluck dinners, canvas paintings, and more. The goal is to offer a safe environment for participants to feel included and not have to stress about life's worries for at least two hours - a temporary escape, if you will. All events and sign-up forms are posted on our social media.
Outreach Outings
We provide outings for those who are homeless, especially our youth, to allow them a sense of normalcy while going through their crisis situation. These trips offer valuable family time to individuals forced to reside in their vehicles, campsites, motel rooms, or with other family members or friends. Our trips are to the park, theme parks, YMCA, skating rink, Tanglewood Festival of Lights, pumpkin patches, and other local family-friendly places. All outings include a meal for the child and at least one parent.
I came to Just HOPE feeling defeated and exhausted. I was a single woman with no support system, living in my car, hungry, needing a shower, and bitter after surviving domestic violence for 11 years. The ladies at Just HOPE showed me so much love and taught me how to love myself again. They helped me go to school to become a CNA. Now, I am working, going to nursing school, and saving to buy a home of my own. The skills I learned and love I was shown will last my lifetime.

Empowered Survivor & Future Nurse
My family lived in the Scottish Inn for 5 months after I lost my job due to Covid. Krystal delivered us hot meals 3 times a week, made sure we had hygiene items and easy-make food, let us shop at the thrift store at no charge for items we needed and made sure I stayed on track with my case-plan. We always feel like family around her and the ladies at Just HOPE…they never made us feel like clients. Ever. We will forever be grateful for this agency and everything they taught us. We are HOMEOWNERS!!

The Heart of HOPE
Founding Story
Every great mission begins with a spark. For Krystal Lewis, founder of Just HOPE, Inc., that spark ignited from a deeply personal place: the raw, lived experience of homelessness. Eleven years ago, with just her couponing skills, a pantry stockpile, and an old delivery car, Krystal set out to feed hungry mouths. She never imagined that quiet act of kindness would blossom into a ministry that has guided over 1,000 families from the brink of homelessness into the stability of their own homes.
Krystal knows the silent struggle of living in a car, in camps, or on borrowed couches. At 23, after a series of traumas, she found herself exactly there. It was a complete stranger’s compassionate “hand up”—not judgment—that offered her a basement to sleep in and a chance to get back on her feet. That life-changing act forged Krystal’s lifelong devotion: to “be that person that I had needed for others.”

A Family of Support
This first-hand understanding sets Just HOPE apart. “Being relevant and relatable is the biggest blessing you can give to someone else,” Krystal shares. “It doesn’t feel like an agency. We are very relatable, and truly understand when not a lot of people do.” This deep empathy is the heartbeat of every service Just Hope provides.
With a dedicated team and volunteers, Just HOPE offers a comprehensive lifeline: assisting with hygiene essentials, guiding job searches, building budgets, providing critical case management, and coordinating referrals for everything from substance abuse counseling to permanent housing. Until permanent housing is found, they offer a haven – a mail center, a phone to connect, a place to do laundry, and a crucial escape from harsh weather. They even ensure hot meals reach residents in local motels and campsites multiple times a week.

Dreams Getting Bigger
Just HOPE’s journey has been one of incredible growth, moving from Krystal’s home to their expansive 9,000-square-foot facility on South Main Street in Mocksville. “I’ve been told so many times that my dreams are too big…but apparently God doesn’t agree,” Krystal beams, “because the blessings keep coming and each time they are bigger and better than the one before.”

The building empowers even greater impact. It houses a thrift store that serves as both agency income and a vital resource for clients starting over. Krystal's vision has come to life in the basement, 4,500 sq ft of community space and a Family Visitation Center. She says, "There's even more to come." Stay tuned!
